The History of our Success

1998
It’s All in the Name
A newly created school board, called “School Board 50-08,” created a committee in charge of the naming process who collected suggestions for a new name from stakeholders. They decided to choose a new name with the provisos that it would be recognizable and that all of the board's future employees would be proud to work under it. The name that was eventually selected honors Lester Bowles Pearson. Lester B. Pearson was Canada's fourteenth Prime Minister who served from 1963 to 1968. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for his work organizing a peacekeeping force during the Suez crisis.

Together, at Last
The Lester B. Pearson's administrative team did not initially work in close quarters. The head office departments were housed in four different locations: 257 Beaconsfield Boulevard housed the Director General, Human Resources, Maintenance, Information Services, the Secretariat, and Commissioners; and 10, 24 and 28 des Source took in the Assistant Directors General, the Educational Services, Student Services, Transportation, Registration, and Community Services departments, as well as the Regional Directors. This impractical situation was resolved when the renovations and expansion of a former elementary school building located at 1925 Brookdale Avenue in Dorval were completed. The extra space allowed all of Lester B. Pearson's departments to occupy the converted building, and it became the board's official headquarters in October of 2000.
