About our Programs

All schools at the Lester B. Pearson School Board follow the Quebec Education Program (QEP). The QEP defines course requirements, content, competencies, progressions of learning and the framework for the Evaluation of student learning. In addition, all of our elementary schools are committed to Michael Fullan’s New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NDPL, also referred to as Deep Learning) framework. Some also incorporate the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme or STEAM approaches. Through these programs we strive to help students achieve their potential, by exploring their interests and passions within an inclusive classroom environment.

We are committed to preparing our students to be active bilingual participants in modern Quebec society. As such we offer three French Second Language programs to serve the diverse needs of our community.

Deep Learning

Deep Learning promotes conceptual understanding and encourages students to become active participants in the education process.

Deep Learning uses a framework that incorporates the six competencies (6 Cs) of 21st century learning across the curriculum (communication, collaboration, character, citizenship, critical thinking, creativity). In doing so, it encourages students to become lifelong learners and equips them to interact authentically with today’s globally interdependent world.

International Baccalaureate (IB) programme

The International Baccalaureate programme is offered at some of our elementary and high schools. It encourages students to become caring, active participants in their lifelong journey of learning. The programme empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally.

Elementary School: The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) offers an inquiry-based, student-centered, transdisciplinary, curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding.

Secondary School: The IB middle years program (MYP) goes further by encouraging students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, preparing them for success in further study and in life. The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning.

STEAM

The STEAM approach is offered at some of our elementary schools. STEAM is an approach to learning that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. This project-based, multi-disciplinary approach, acts as an access point for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking, while simultaneously connecting to real-world scenarios.

Français Langue Seconde

All of the elementary schools, at the Lester B. Pearson School Board, follow the French immersion program from the Ministry of Education in Quebec, regardless of being a Bilingual, Immersion or Français Plus school.

A Bilingual school offers students two core subjects in English, namely English Language Arts and Mathematics while Science, Geography and History are taught in French. This means that, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, students spend approximately half their week learning in English and approximately the other half learning in French.

Once the students reach grade 3, English Language Arts is introduced and math is also taught in English until grade 6. This means that, from Grade 3 to Grade 6, students spend approximately half their week learning in English and approximately the other half learning in French.
