LBPSB’s International Programs
Lester B. Pearson School Board’s (LBPSB) International Youth and Vocational Programs is committed to the well-being, growth, and overall success of all of its students. Through innovative pedagogy, immersive learning experiences, engagement with Montreal’s multicultural community, LBPSB successfully implements its educational mission for its international students.
As one of the largest and most successful English school boards in Quebec; consistently ranking in the top five in overall graduation and qualification rates (87.8%), LBPSB is uniquely positioned to foster international students’ academic accomplishments. By incorporating a student-focused teaching philosophy, our International Youth and Vocational sectors are able to cater to students’ specific interests and needs.
We are aware that international students’ journeys to English education in Québec can be complex, and that there are many factors at play when deciding to study in Québec. As such, LBPSB pledges to provide clear and concise information and protocol relating to its International programs. LBPSB has established a dedicated registrar and team of administrative professionals ensuring that prospective and current international students are properly guided from application and registration to enrollment and graduation.
LBPSB’s existing strategic plan targets 3 priorities: Achievement, Wellness, and Engagement. These 3 priorities also inform International Programs.
Achievement — Both the Youth and Vocational International programs offer an array of programs and courses; capturing a variety of core competencies and learning outcomes. Technology is heavily integrated into LBPSB’s curricula, enhancing student engagement and ensuring real-world readiness. Language reinforcement and focused teacher attention are also provided; keeping the international learner in mind.
Wellness — Maintaining physical, emotional, and mental wellness is key to student engagement and success. Being cognizant of the challenges facing international students when entering a new educational environment, LBPSB organizes and promotes wellness and social integration activities during and outside of school hours for its International students. As well, safe and secure student housing is provided with ongoing professional supervision where a strong bond of trust is formed between the students, staff and educational institution.
Engagement — Montreal is a rich multicultural mosaic; bursting with activity. LBPSB prides itself in partnering with various communities and encourages students to bask in Montreal’s world-class festivals and events. International and local students jointly participate in such cultural events; creating a global community of learning and meaningful cultural exchanges. International students’ cultures are recognized and celebrated throughout the LBPSB community.
A Word of Caution
Defamatory and untrue remarks about the LBPSB international program and some members of his staff have been spread for some time through a Chinese local website. The individual who is responsible for these defamatory attacks has been legally told to discontinue his activities and legal proceedings are currently being taken by LBPSB in order to put an end to this situation.   Unfortunately, International education can be competitive and much effort has been done by this individual to discredit the competition for personal gains. Consequently, we do want to caution potential Chinese students to be aware and to protect themselves. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
·        Good schools promote their education programs only.
·        Always visit the institution’s website to make sure that the information you receive is consistent with what you have been told.
·        Know that schools are about pedagogy and not about immigration. Questions about immigration should be answered by an immigration lawyer or the ministry of immigration.
·        There are great agents but there are sometimes a few that make false promises. Again, visit the appropriate websites to validate the information.
·        Anyone who offers a fast track road through education for immigration purposes is possibly not putting your best interest forward. Students can be subject of investigation if there is suspicions of receiving a diploma that is not merited.
·        Paying for tuition does not guarantee success. Studying requires a full commitment, consistent attendance and hard work.
The Lester B. Pearson School Board’s International Programs will continue to focus its attention and energies on what truly matters: maintaining its leading reputation in international education and continuing to improve international students’ success.
