Applications are invited for the position of SECRETARY GENERAL

POSITION :    Secretary General
SALARY :    Class 7 (from $71,838 to $95,783)
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR :    Director General
START DATE :    June 2015


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Secretary General assumes responsibility for all activities pertaining to the functioning of the meetings of the Council of Commissioners and of the Executive Committee including notices of meetings, documentation, minutes and follow-ups (correspondence letters, certifications and document authentications)

The Secretary General also:
Ensures the preparation, review, recording, publishing and preservation of policies, by-laws, and official records of the school board and certifies their authenticity, where applicable;

Updates these documents to reflect new applicable standards or regulations;

Develops and supports consultation and cooperation mechanisms;

Receives parents’ or adult students’ complaints on the school board’s activities and handles them in accordance with the applicable legislation and the school board’s policies;

Receives and answers information access requests;

Coordinates the electoral process concerning the members of the Council of Commissioners during school board elections;
Works in collaboration with the Director of Corporate Affairs and Legal Services to offer all the legal services required by the school board’s activities, more specifically the following ones:

•    Advise the principals and the various school board’s departments concerning the interpretation and application of legal provisions that apply to the school system, in particular the Education Act and its basic school regulations;

•    Represent the school board in the application of agreements with various ministries and organizations;

•    Coordinate the handling of litigation files and represent the school board before organizations’ and administrative courts as well as courts of law.
